“Communique” on welfare rolls (archived)

March 8th, 2009

If you missed my appearance on the WNYE-FM program “Communique” last Wednesday, I’ve uploaded a recording of the show here. Much talk about why New York’s welfare rolls haven’t risen amid the economic downturn, with myself and the excellent Liz Schott of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

WNYE-FM, 91.5 in NYC, 1 pm today

March 4th, 2009

Late notice, but I’ll be on WNYE-FM in New York City, 91.5 on your radio dial, from 1 to 1:30 pm today talking about my recent article on falling welfare rolls amid rising need.

I can’t find a link for a web stream, but I’ll post a followup here if it’s archived anywhere. Meanwhile, if you’re local, tune in, then move two clicks back down the dial to check out the WFMU marathon, which is where my radio (okay, my iTunes) is tuned to all this week and next.

Baseball Prospectus chats, online and in person

February 24th, 2009

The new edition of Baseball Prospectus is out, with my essay on the last year in baseball stadium developments, and I’ll be hitting the road - okay, the keyboard and the subway - to help promote it. This Thursday, I’ll be at baseballprospectus.com doing a live online chat (feel free to submit questions ahead of time).

Then on Thursday, March 12, at 6 pm, I’ll be appearing on a BP panel discussion, along with Kevin Goldstein, Steven Goldman, Jay Jaffe, and Cliff Corcoran, at the original Barnes & Noble store on 18th St. and Fifth Ave. in Manhattan. C’mon out and say hi.

Blagojeviching

December 10th, 2008

Ever since news broke that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich allegedly tried to trade Wrigley Field stadium subsidies for getting Chicago Tribune editorial board writers fired, I’ve been getting lots of calls from radio stations on the topic. So far the list includes:

I’ll also be on New York’s WBAI tomorrow morning at 6:45 am Eastern, discussing the latest in the Mets and Yanks stadium deals. If my voice hasn’t given out by then.

(UPDATE: I also just found the archive of my appearance yesterday on The Roth Show, which was, um, interesting…)

Democracy Now! with Kucinich and Damiani

July 30th, 2008

Just got back from filming/taping a half-hour appearance on the TV/radio show Democracy Now! about the new Yankees stadium - U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich and Good Jobs New York director Bettina Damiani were on hand as well, but I got to throw in a few soundbites about how much it will all cost the public. You can watch/listen to the proceeding via the Democracy Now! website here.

Brian Lehrer Show, yesterday

April 19th, 2008

The Brian Lehrer Show has archived my appearance yesterday, debating deputy mayor Linda Gibbs on New York’s poverty policies; you can listen to the mp3 here. They’ve even helpfully broken up the archive into segments, so you can hear my interview without having to fast-forward through the preceding news item on the oral rape of children by bishops. (That oughta do wonders for my Google hits…)

Brian Lehrer Show, tomorrow

April 17th, 2008

I’ll be on the Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC in New York at 10 am on Friday, talking about my investigation of Mayor Bloomberg’s poverty initiatives in the soon-to-be-released Spring issue of City Limits Investigates. Tune in on 93.9 FM, 820 AM, or via the web stream to hear me answer the musical question: Two years ago Mayor Michael Bloomberg vowed “a major reduction” in New York City poverty. Does his plan match his promise?

Two radio appearances

April 13th, 2008

I neglected to mention that I was going to be on Sports Byline USA’s overnight program on Friday, talking about the new edition of Field of Schemes, whether the Sonics will move to Oklahoma, and other sundry topics. As penance, I now offer up links not only to an mp3 of that interview, but of one I did for the same sports talk network last month.

And if you would have wanted to call in but couldn’t because you didn’t know about, all I can suggest is you try using Google Custom Time.

Stadium interview on NRO

March 30th, 2008

I was interviewed about stadium shakedowns by John Miller of National Review Online (yes, you read that right) a week or so ago, and it’s now available online. I don’t remember what I said, so tune in and then tell me!

Talkin’ Santa Clara Stadium Blues

December 26th, 2007

I’m going to be on KPFA-FM in the Bay Area tomorrow morning at 7:30 am, discussing the proposed San Francisco 49ers football stadium in Santa Clara. Those out of reach of KPFA’s signal (like me) can listen live via the station’s Internet streams; it looks like the shows are archived as well, so I’ll post a link here once that’s up.

UPDATE: The segment was postponed thanks to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, and will now air Friday morning at 7:30 am Pacific instead.

UPDATE #2: The show is now online. (Scroll ahead about half an hour to hear my segment.)
